Superintendent Message

Welcome to Marked Tree School District, Home of the Indians!

It is an honor to work in the Marked Tree School District.  Since the fall of 2002, I have worked in some capacity at our district.  My journey in Marked Tree started off as a science teacher and coach before moving to the principal in 2009.  Eventually, I became the superintendent in 2017.  As I have said before, Marked Tree isn't part of my journey, it is my destination.  There is no place I'd rather be and no kids I'd rather work with than the students of this district.

There are many changes that have taken place over the past three years, but there will be even more this year.  We are opening new wings on our high school and elementary campus, we have adopted a new phonics program, new secondary literacy curriculum, new 6th grade science curriculum, and a new decodable text program for our young readers!  We have worked to enhance our food service program and will feed all students in grades K-12 for free.  In September, we hope to add a school resource officer to our staff!

The good news is our students are growing!  As a result of our efforts to create an aligned curriculum throughout our district and timely intervention, our elementary school received a "B" last year on our school report card, received Highest Growth in Math, and was designated as a school that was "Beating the Odds."  We hope this is evidence to you that we are working hard to build success into our everyday routine.

In the fall of 1981, I started my educational journey at Marked Tree.  During that time, I learned so much from the teachers and community.  It is my sincere hope to give back to the community that gave me so much.  It is also a privilege to have both of my daughters begin their educational journey in the town in which I started my beginning.  Over the coming years, I hope my kids will learn how to "conquer and prevail", just as many have while in our schools.

Should you need any help or assistance while in our district or community or if you would like to discuss the goals of our district, feel free to contact me at (870) 358-2913 or email me at wrightm@mtree.k12.ar.us.

Below, you will find a series of links that connect you to our Monday Message...a series of videos we have posted on Facebook and YouTube this summer informing you of our plans for reopening.  Also, I have attached our District Newsletter from last year.

Sincerely,
Matt Wright
