Safety our #1 priority. We are one of the smallest districts in the state that employs a school resource officer. Our district is grateful for the opportunity to work with our Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office on this important position. Our S.R.O. is Officer Ray Harsson and he is in his 2nd year with the district.
On the first day of teaching training, we will review and work through our safety procedures with our teachers. These procedures will be reviewed and practiced throughout the year. Our emergency action plan includes multiple scenarios as we try to be prepared for everything. Each school will have multiple lock-down drills where we will bring in local and state law enforcement and other emergency personnel to provide us with feedback on how to improve. We also have monthly safety drills such as fire and tornado drills.
We have teams on both campuses who are trained in CPR and first-aid.
Over the past few years, we have installed monitoring systems at our entrances that require visitors to be allowed into our buildings. Each campus has a vestibule where visitors are held. We do not allow anyone past the vestibules unless they are escorted by school personnel.
This year, we are adding to our safety features by installing new fencing around the elementary playground and gates at the back of the high school. We will also install additional keyless entry systems around our school.

The start of the school day at the elementary school is at 7:50 a.m. Breakfast starts being served at 7:15 a.m. School is dismissed at 3:05 p.m.

If your child is in K-6, you will drop-off in the loop in front of the elementary. Please remember that 6th Street is a one way street from 7:00 a.m. through 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. through 3:30 p.m. and the speed limit is 10 m.p.h.
At the high school, please drop off your student under the awning in front of the building. Please enter on the right.

When you get done, head over to the practice field across from the elementary school and have hots dogs, hamburgers, chips, and a drink! The school will be providing lunch tomorrow from 12 to 1 and providing a breakfast that you can take home for the next morning. We will be at the elementary school. Feel free to come stay with us all day and stay cool. We are also looking for community partners who would help us find ways to serve our community food over the weekend.
It is going to be extremely hot the next few days! If you know of an elderly person who needs a cool place to stay, let them know we can come get them. We have additional cots available. Please message us if you need a place to stay.

The school will drive around town starting at 4:30 and drop off at the community center. Families can eat at the community center or Refuge Church and then ride the shuttle home. If you see the bus, just make sure you wave it down!
Happening Today
We have a few open cots at the elementary school. If you need one, feel free to go. If you need a ride, message us and we will work on arranging it.
We will be feeding families lunch from 12:00-1:00 at the elementary cafeteria. We have power and air.
Refuge Church will be helping distribute food, water, Gatorade, and cleaning supplies from Convoy of Hope tomorrow at 12PM in the elementary school parking lot.
FARM BUREAU is feeding the community Wednesday from 9-1 at the Community Center
FIRST BAPTIST CHRCH is feeding the community Wednesday starting at 3:00 at the Community Center. This will last until 6:00
Refuge Church will also be doing a spaghetti dinner and delivery at Refuge Church at 6PM.
The Community Center has power and the air conditioners are on. The Food Pantry and City have provided some drinks and snacks and we will keep it open 24/7.

If you are a parent of a student who will play football in 7th-12 grade next year, there is a parent meeting on June 5th at 6:00 p.m. This will take place at the elementary cafeteria. This is required training concerning heat-related illnesses and concussions.
