The elementary storm shelter is open.

Parents,
The weather forecast is becoming even more concerning. Some predictions state that by 4:00, there could be multiple tornado warnings. However, weather can move faster (or slower) than anticipated. The danger to student safety is only increased due to dismissal. Due to this, MTSD will close at 1:30 today at the elem. and 1:35 at the high school.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this creates. However, we must prioritize safety. Please know that storms shelters will be accessible for the community beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Parents,
There is a lot of concern about the timing of the weather tomorrow. If the forecast holds true, we will have significant weather around dismissal.
If a storm was moving in at 10:00 a.m., our philosophy would be to utilize safe rooms. If a storm moves in at 3:00 p.m., our thinking has to shift. Our whole community is on the move during dismissal. Parents in car lines, kids loading, buses traveling, teachers driving home, and people rushing to school to get their child before a storm creates a dangerous situation. All of these issues create significant safety concerns for our community.
We are closely watching the weather. Should we need an early dismissal, we will notify you. If we see the potential for significant weather moving towards us, we will also notify you that you can check your child out.
Please make sure that you monitor the weather, our social media pages, and check your phone during the day.

Students who participate in extracurricular activities have higher GPAs, ACT Scores, fewer absences and discipline referrals and graduate at a 99% rate compared to an 89% rate for those who don't participate in extracurricular activities.
While the benefits of participation in extracurricular activities have been widely publicized, the non-measurable benefits of participation may be much more important. These include gaining a sense of belonging, learning time management, experiencing new things, learning responsibility and accountability, developing relationships and having a sense of purpose.
Extracurricular activities is not just athletics. Choir, band, FCCLA, FBLA, FFA, and more could be considered extracurricular. Make sure you student participates!
